The paper looks at the notion of "remoteness" – generally understood to refer to inaccessible places, in both developed and developing countries – and its impacts on policy and development. Implementation Of A Local-content Policy In The Oil And Gas Sector: Lessons For The Kenya Turkana Oil And Gas Fields
Local-content policies and legislation are now common in the emerging oil- and gas-producing economies of the developing world, those in Africa included. This paper’s main message is that local content policies, even where they have been translated into legislation, are not a panacea to ensure that the oil and gas sector is of significant national economic benefit, especially in Africa.
